Professor Stephen Cranefield studied Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Otago, graduating with a BSc(Hons) in Mathematics.
He then gained a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, studying in the Department of Artificial Intelligence (now merged into the School of Informatics).
After a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Computer Science at Otago, he had a short-term position in the Computer Science department at Massey University, and then joined Otago’s Information Science department in 1994.
